Trustees voted 5-1 Wednesday night to curb on-street displays of cars for sale, saying they sometimes infringe on residents’ parking space.

“We’ve had some occasions where people have put their cars up for sale, not on their property,” Village Administrator John Daly said before the meeting, adding that it prohibits residents from parking in front of their homes if someone has left a car there.

While Daly said the issue “is not a huge problem,” he noted that 167th Street, between 90th and 92nd Avenues, is affected.

Trustee Don Bigos said he voted against the measure because it had not been discussed at a committee meeting beforehand. “Now we’re shoving ordinances through without discussing them in committee,” Bigos said.

The ordinance restricts parking of cars for sale to within 50 feet of the owner’s home and restricts display time to seven days on, seven days off.

Fines for violating the law are $25 to $50 per day, Daly said.
