Like Frank Sinatra, the late Chicago singer Chuck Koster (left) considered himself a saloon singer even after the ’30s, when tough, speak-easy style “saloons” gave way to kitschy, Las Vegas-esque “lounges.” In joints all around Chicago — and once, in the mid-’80s at the Grand Ole Opry — Koster crooned a little pop, a little country and always his signature song, Robert Sherwood’s “Saloon.” Koster died Oct. 5 at age 79; a memorial concert will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Street Church of Evanston, 607 Lake St., Evanston. Free admission; the family suggests donations go to The Olive Branch. 847-864-2181.
