But make no mistake, Tech’s invitation to play Florida State for the national championship Jan. 4 in the Sugar Bowl is richly deserved. Even the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Tech’s closest pursuer in the Bowl Championship Series, acknowledged the Hokies’ credentials. “They’ve done everything this season to prove they’re a quality team,” said Huskers safety Mike Brown during a teleconference last week. “They deserve to play for the national championship.”
