A PASSION FOR BOOKS
Edited by Harold Rabinowitz and Rob Kaplan
Times Books, 353 pages, $27.50
In his essay “How to Organize a Public Library,” author Umberto Eco offers a tongue-in-cheek list of suggestions, such as “Loans must be discouraged.” But, he adds, “Given this policy, theft must be very easy.” This rich offering of musings on books by authors, collectors and booksellers (including Chicago’s Stuart Brent) will remind readers of the consolations and challenges of literature.
