Tinley Park’s annual Wish program, aimed at helping residents in need, is once again under way.

Tinley Wish, now in its third year, was started by members of the village’s Police Department and has helped people with house payments and benefited individuals suffering from catastrophic illnesses.

The program now is supported by volunteers from other village departments and from the community at large.

“We have been able to ease the burden of many individuals during the holiday season,” Reserve Officer Dennis Mahoney said.

Those wishing to make a donation can call Mahoney at 708-532-9111, ext. 1640; Detective Sam Shervino at ext. 5334; or Rich Kozik at ext. 1657.

The campaign will culminate Dec. 18 with a procession through town, led by the Fire Department, to distribute items and money to recipients.

Last year, the fund was able to help one family with a 15-year-old diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, another with a 6-year-old who had undergone 12 surgeries and a third that lost two members, one a young girl with multiple birth defects.
