The Will County Governmental League will ask the Illinois Commerce Commission whether Commonwealth Edison can finance part of the cost of relocating utility lines underground.

At issue is a clause in the ComEd franchise agreement that says the utility can relocate up to 500 feet of a community’s lines underground.

Pete Evers, a ComEd spokesman, said an ICC ruling says residents of a town have to pay for relocation.

But Mokena Village Administrator John Downs said the ruling may not mean ComEd can’t share the costs.
