The design of Artist Village Lofts exhibits a distinct architectural flair.

Curved balconies will decorate the north and east walks of the four-story brick building. Plus, the exterior will be accented by decorative steel trusses.

The former silk factory at 2735 W. Armitage Ave. on the Northwest Side is being converted into 38 residential units by Chicago-based A.K. Acquisitions.

First occupancies are projected for next June, according to Geraldo Roman, managing principal of Roman Realty Group, which is marketing the development.

Peter Moser of Swiss Design Group is the architect.

Prices for one-bedroom units with 765 to 780 square feet start at $154,900. Two bedroom residences with from 935 to 1,400 square feet start at $171,900.

The three new-construction penthouses on the roof will have 1,326 to 1,344 square feet and start at $269.900.

The inside walls are rounded off into the bedrooms, giving a contoured effect.

The lofts will have hardwood floors, timber ceilings 12 to 14 feet high, floor-to-ceiling windows, exposed ductwork and brick walls, granite kitchen countertops, bathroom with soaking tub and marble surrounds.

Indoor Parking costs $14,000, while secured outdoor parking is $9,000.

Standard features in the elevator building include a telephone entry system with video camera, pre-wiring for cable and multi-line telephone.
