A wider 191st Street is one of the keys to developing Mokena’s section of the Interstate Highway 80 corridor, village officials said this week.
Both 191st Street and land bordering Interstate 80 are considered prime territory for industrial, commercial and office development.
“The widening of 191st Street opens up this whole area,” Trustee John Mazzorana said.
Part of the street will be improved as part of the planned reconstruction of Interstate 80’s La Grange Road interchange, scheduled for the 2001-2002 construction season, Mayor Robert Chiszar said this week.
Scheduling road work for all of 191st Street at the same time as the interstate construction might create some major traffic problems, according to the mayor. The work could be continued the following year, he said.
But Trustee Ed Jancauskas said village officials should push for the road work. “If it’s not going to happen in the next couple of years, we need to make it happen,” Jancauskas said.
