The Hoffman Estates Park District has received the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a park district in the state.

On Tuesday night, Rudy Nelson, chairman of the Joint Distinguished Park and Recreation Agency Committee, presented park officials with the Distinguished Agency Award plaque. The panel is a committee of the Illinois Park and Recreation Association, which works with the Illinois Association of Park Districts to select honorees. The Hoffman Estates Park District is the only recipient of the award this year, according to Sue Olafson, district spokeswoman.

The joint committee looks at general management, finance and business operations, personnel and recreational facilities in making its decision.

“The staff and board members of the Hoffman Estates Park District have made an extraordinary effort in the last several years to improve the Park District’s areas, facilities, programs and services to meet the growing needs of residents of the community,” read a statement from Ted Flickinger, executive director of the Springfield-based Illinois Association of Park Districts.
