Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Get ready, Pokemon fans! The movie we’ve been waiting for is here. “Pokemon: The First Movie” (G) centers on the most powerful Pokemon of all: Mewtwo. Mewtwo is created in a lab full of scientists. They take details from Mew and end up creating Mewtwo, the world’s strongest Pokemon. And, Pokemon fans, Mewtwo’s strength is AWESOME. The only problem is that Mewtwo is EVIL. He destroys the lab where he was created and sets out to take over the entire Pokemon kingdom. I won’t give away the ending, but there’s a major showdown. I give Pokemon (star)(star)(star) 1/2. It’s a great movie, but I had to wonder why Mewtwo had to be so evil.

CALL ME YELLOW, BUT . .

. . . one scene in this flick bugged me. In it, a bunch of Pokemon are being roughed up by clones. The real Pokemon refuse to fight. Watching adorable Pikachu get slapped around by his clone made my stomach hurt. Even once things turn out great for the little guy (you knew they would!), I couldn’t erase that sad image of a teary, exhausted Pikachu wobbling about. (Zack says the scene didn’t bother him, so maybe it won’t bug you either.)
