The McHenry County Government Center was evacuated Monday after a bomb threat was phoned in to the main switchboard by an anonymous caller.
Visitors and employees remained outside the building from around noon until 1:45 p.m. while McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies searched the building. No bomb, explosives or suspicious packages were found, police said.
“They were going through garbage cans and personal belongings,” said Ron Nerby, of Huntley, who was at the building for jury duty.
Much of the building and parking lot was fairly empty because it was lunch time. About 70 people waited outside while police conducted a search.
Capt. Dave Shepherd said: “The information was informal. It just informed us there was a bomb.”
A bomb squad dog from the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, which was in McHenry County on another matter, assisted in searching the building, Shepherd said.
The Government Center was evacuated June 3 after an anonymous caller phoned in a bomb threat. Police have not made any arrests in either case.
