New Lenox village officials said goodbye to a senior member last week with the resignation of veteran Village Clerk Marge Wajchert.
Wajchert, who held the post 32 years, was re-elected for a ninth term in April but never took office because she was recuperating from a stroke she suffered in the spring.
“We’ve been regretting this for a long time,” Mayor Mike Smith said. “She’s given a lot the village.”
The Village Board plans to host a retirement ceremony as soon as Wajchert’s health improves, he said.
Smith and village trustees will appoint a clerk to replace Wajchert, probably this month, he said.
