Judge Thomas P. Panichi handed down the order against Anthony Staples, 37, of the 17400 block of Eastgate Drive in Country Club Hills, at the request of Country Club Hills police, who charged Staples with attempted murder on Tuesday.
Staples was not present for the bond hearing. He and his alleged victim, Denise Burks, 36, of the 19300 block of Oakwood Avenue in Country Club Hills, remain hospitalized in Olympia Fields Osteopathic Medical Center after the shootings late Sunday.
Both Staples and Burks, who were brought to the hospital in critical condition, were listed in fair condition Wednesday, said a hospital spokesman.
Staples, who already had been charged with attempted murder in an Aug. 14 confrontation with Burks, is accused of shooting the woman four times–twice in the head–outside of her residence about 10:40 p.m. Sunday. An order of protection against Staples had been issued to Burks after the August incident.
According to Country Club Hills police, Staples fled the scene of the shooting in Burks’ car and , pursued by police, drove into a gas pump at a gas station on the southeast corner of 159th Street and Crawford Avenue. Police said Staples allegedly pointed his gun at one of the officers.
In addition to attempted murder, Staples was charged on Tuesday with unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault, aggravated fleeing and eluding police and two counts of violating the order of protection.
In August Staples allegedly struck Burks in the head several times against a railing, bit her on the neck and attempted to strangle her.
He is scheduled to appear in Markham Court Dec. 8.
