Pace has scheduled public hearings next week in Deerfield and Vernon Hills on its proposal to discontinue two routes that have poor ridership.
Routes 894 Gurnee/Lake-Cook Express and 895 Vernon Hills Corporate Shuttle have consistently fallen below Pace standards, officials say.
routes have failed to meet the criteria for Pace routes: carrying at least 50 riders per day; having an average of 15.7 riders per service hour; and generating an 18 percent fare box recovery rate, which is the percentage of operating costs covered by fares.
Route 894 provides express weekday rush-hour service between Gurnee and the Lake-Cook Road business corridor and serves the Deerfield and Lake-Cook Metra stations.
Route 895 provides weekday rush-hour service between the Vernon Hills Metra station and Corporate Woods business parks in Vernon Hills.
The hearing on Route 894 will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Nov. 18 at Walgreen Co., 300 Wilmot Rd., Deerfield. The Route 895 hearing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Nov. 17 at the Vernon Hills Village Hall, 290 Evergreen Drive.
