Tinley Park plan commissioners got a look Thursday night at a drawing of a proposed water pumping station that would bring Lake Michigan water to New Lenox residents.

The facility would be located near 19300 S. 82nd Ave., west of the Brookside Glen subdivision.

The pump is part of a $12 million project, which also includes a pipeline running from the pumping station into New Lenox.

Work would be paid for with a $10 million, low-cost loan and with money saved from Water Department revenues, New Lenox officials have said.

New Lenox first studied the possibility of changing to Lake Michigan water in 1990. Officials decided to make the switch after a survey of water customers indicated most favored the idea.

The Plan Commission is expected to vote in two weeks on whether it will recommend that the Village Board issue a special-use permit for the station.
