After a delay of several weeks to address neighbors’ concerns, the design and site location of a proposed elementary school on the city’s east side was approved Monday by the Batavia City Council.
At an earlier meeting, the council had voted to send the matter back to committee after several residents living in a cul-de-sac near where the school is to be built on Wagner Road raised objections to the size of the school in ratio to its 7-acre site, its placement on the site and its proximity to their property lines.
The residents had presented an alternative site orientation that rotated the school about 90 degrees, moving it farther from their property and offering what they called a more pleasing view of the structure.
In response, Ald. Linnea Miller had requested the Community Development Committee take another look at the plans and the Batavia School District 101 Board address residents’ concerns. The school board later decided to move forward with its design and site placement.
