Everyone gathered to watch “The Ed Sullivan Show” on Sunday evenings and “77 Sunset Strip” and “The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet” on weeknights. It was the ’50s and ’60s, the time when we first realized we couldn’t get enough of our beloved tubes. Thankgoodness for the TV table. Back then, metal-topped versions decorated with flowers or superheroes like Mighty Mouse came to save the day (or, more accurately, dinner).
Fast-forward to the present. Today, TV junkies equipped with stereo-surround sound, cable, DVDs or VCRs can prop pizzas or sushi on the Rumba Table ($29.99). This contemporary interpretation of that old-fashioned TV table has a matte-finish polypropylenetray and folding legs. The tray can be removed and used for serving. The Rumba comes in metallic blue, black, green and white and is sold at The Container Store; call 800-733-3532 for the nearest location.

A FINE KETTLE OF FISH
As the summer wanes, a warm fire in a clay fireplace can keep a patio cozy. This Mexican chimenea takes the shape of a fish-like a clay version of those dolphins in Italian Renaissance fountains, only this one breathes fire instead of spouting water. Available (by order) in four sizes from $59 to $229 at Alltypes Fireplace & Patio Co. stores; call 773-348-9111.
