The Boy Scouts Chicago Area Council has awarded a $52,500 contract to Aurora University for the development of a model outdoor education program for the council’s Hoover Outdoor Education Center in Yorkville.

The project will begin in September at the 400-acre residential camp on the Fox River, which includes cabins, a dining hall, an indoor swimming pool, a softball field, volleyball courts, nature trails and picnic areas. It hosts about 15,000 visitors annually.

The contracted program is intended to become a model for Scout Councils that want to offer outdoor education to schools and a training site for university students in recreation administration, education and physical education.
