The Mokena Elementary District 159 School Board has been presented with an amended tentative budget for the 1998-99 school year that reflects a lower tax rate for residents.
Pat Chesla, assistant superintendent for finance, said the tax rate of $2.48 for each $100 of assessed valuation has decreased by 2.5 cents. “It’s the lowest tax rate . . . since 1993,” Chesla said.
The $11 million tentative budget projects expenditures of $7.3 million from the education fund; $1.3 million from the operations and maintenance fund; $737,270 from the bond and interest fund; $513,591 from the transportation fund; $244,037 from the Illinois Municipal Retirement/Social Security fund; $222,800 from the site and construction fund; and $144,715 from the fire prevention/safety fund.
The amended budget is on display at the District Office, 11244 Willowcrest Lane. The board is expected to vote on the budget proposal June 9.
