School District 101 has invited parents to attend several open dialogues about changing school starting times.
District Supt. Ed Cave said the changes would mean savings of up to $300,000 because the district would need about 10 fewer buses to accommodate the schedule.

Dialogue sessions will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Batavia Middle School, 1501 S. Raddant Rd.; from 9 to 10:30 a.m. May 12 at J.B. Nelson School, Laurel Street and William Wood Lane; and from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at McWayne School, 328 W. Wilson St.
Requests were recently sent home to parents asking them to submit their preferences.
For elementary pupils, the current schedule is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and would change to 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. under the board’s proposal.
The current 8:05 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. schedule for middle schoolers would become an 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. schedule.
High school students now attend from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. but would switch to a later day, from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
