When Duane Kramer resigned last month as director of Kane County’s Juvenile Justice Center, county officials knew it would be tough replacing the 16-year veteran.
Taking charge of a building that houses about 75 juvenile offenders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is no easy task, Court Services Director Jim Mueller told the County Board’s Corrections and Rehabilitations Committee last week.
It is not made any easier by the $41,000 starting salary Kane pays for the position.
“That building is seen as being very important,” Mueller said. “We’re having a difficult time attracting candidates because of what we pay.”
Nevertheless, Chief Judge Grant Wegner is reviewing applications and hopes to begin interviews soon.
