Most people know Eartha Kitt for her kitschier endeavors, like playing Catwoman on the old “Batman” television series and the Wicked Witch in last year’s “The Wizard of Oz.” But no American singer could handle French with as much pure sexiness as Kitt did in “Mademoiselle Kitt” or “C’est Si Bon.” A native of Columbia, S.C., Kitt first earned her fame in 1950s Paris, where she purred, with elbows on pianos, to lovestruck cabaret crowds. When lounge music returned in the early ’90s, Kitt, unlike forgotten space-age bachelor pad pioneers Martin Denny and Juan Garcia Esquivel, didn’t have to “come back.” At age 71, she has never left.

The singer whom filmmaker Orson Welles once called “the most exciting woman in the world” headlines at 8 and 10 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Yvette Wintergarden, 311 S. Wacker Drive. The 8 p.m. dinner shows are $85; the 10 p.m. shows are $35 (with a two-drink minimum). 312-408-1242.
