While classes continue as usual, the Lincoln-Way High School Central Campus is doing double duty as a construction site, according to a construction update presented recently to the school board.

Construction manager Ron Price said most of the academic wing foundation has been poured, and a shipment of structural steel is expected next month.

The basement for the new auditorium has been dug out, and underground utilities are being relocated from the area earmarked for a swimming pool, Price said.

Foundation work for the pool will begin after spring break, he said.

Work on a similar expansion at the East Campus is in the design stage, Price said.

Contractors meet weekly to coordinate work schedules and safety efforts, Price said.

The expansion planned for the junior-senior campus in New Lenox and the freshman-sophomore campus in Frankfort will create two separate four-year high schools to accommodate a growing student population.
