Most of us remember Mom’s decoupage knickknacks-and would prefer not to revisit them. This decoupage chest of drawers is obviously different, looking more like hand-painted furniture than decoupage, a process that involves cutout designs and lots of lacquer. The Red Balloon Co., a gallery within the Vintage Pine showroom at 904 W. Blackhawk St., 312-255-8250, sells a cache of these bright and attractive decoupage furniture pieces imported from England and meant for a child’s room (although perfectly acceptable in adult spaces). Find dressers, chests, armoires, computer desks and more featuring Noah’s Ark, African safari and English fairy themes. Prices: $195 for a small treasure box to $595 for a toy trunk to $1,295 for the chest shown here.
