A pipeline to carry Lake Michigan water from Tinley Park to New Lenox is moving closer to reality.
New Lenox trustees this week tentatively awarded three contracts for phases of the project.
The tentative contracts, subject to approval by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and project engineers, are: $1.9 million to Laser Construction; $1.7 million to Knowles/Spiess Construction; and $2.1 million to D Construction.
Village officials began pursuing a Lake Michigan water supply after a survey of water customers indicated a majority were willing to pay higher prices to switch from mineral-laden well water.
