A new car-repair shop soon will begin operations, the fifth automobile-related business to open in the village in six months.

The Plan Commission this week recommended issuing a conditional-use permit for Cottman Transmissions to repair and rebuild automobile transmissions in part of the Countryside Plaza at Bloomingdale Road and North Avenue. The conditional-use permit is required because the business will be operating in a commercial district.

In recent months, Glendale Heights officials have given the nod to several automobile dealerships and parts stores: a Pep Boys, to open at a shopping center at the southwest corner of Army Trail and Bloomingdale Roads; an automobile detail shop in an automotive mall at Bloomingdale and Dale Roads; and a used-car dealership at North Avenue near Glen Ellyn Road.

Next week trustees are expected to approve a combination dealership selling Kias and late-model used cars at the far western portion of the Glendale Heights Shopping Center at Glen Ellyn Road and North Avenue.
