The New Lenox Village Board Tuesday night awarded a $45,000 consulting contract to Rolf C. Campbell and Associates to study the north side of the village, where a proposed highway extension is planned to link up with Interstate Highway 80.

Consultant Michael J. Donahue said the study of the north side would be a “subset of the comprehensive plan.” The difference, Donahue said, is in the level of detail, such as specifying development preferences. He said the study will help village officials balance market trends with their own plans.

Trustee Dave Smith said, “It will set up what we want to see up there.”

Construction on the extension of Interstate Highway 355, which is intended to link the west and northwest suburbs with the southwest region by running from Bolingbrook to Interstate Highway 80, has been delayed by court action, but developers have expressed an interest in the region, village officials say.
