Chicago Southland Development Inc. directors decided recently not to pull the plug on the organization most widely associated with south suburban industrial and commercial development.

However, CSDI directors reportedly did not resolve issues related to its staffing and mission.

Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce President Michael Seward said last week that his organization is replacing the CSDI as the primary contact for businesses interested in relocating to the south suburbs.

Chamber officials will feed leads to CSDI staff and monitor client satisfaction, he said. At the same time, the Chicago Southland Alliance is channeling leads directly to participating municipalities, according to marketing director Sherry Marnell.

The Chicago Southland Alliance is a south suburban economic development organization involving the chamber, the CSDI and the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association. Alliance participants are essentially the same southern Cook County municipalities served by the CSDI and its precursor for nearly 15 years.

Seward said the shift in responsibilities is part of a “targeted effort” by the Chicago Southland Alliance.
