Local veterans groups have formed a committee to design and install a memorial to those who have served in the armed forces.
The memorial, which American Legion member Terry Burns said will include the names of local residents who fought in conflicts dating to the War of 1812 or as recent as Operation Desert Storm, will be located in the village green area of the Commons.
The New Lenox Commons will occupy vacant land south of U.S. Highway 30 and north of the Village Hall on Haven Avenue.
Burns said schoolchildren will participate in a design contest for the memorial.
