Two boundary proposals have been tossed out and two remain, as Community Consolidated School District 93 officials near a decision on how elementary school attendance borders will be drawn.
The task of setting school boundaries that began last fall is scheduled to conclude in two weeks when board members decide on March 25 where more than 5,200 children will attend elementary and middle school starting in the fall of 2000.
That meeting will be at 7 p.m. at Western Trails School, 860 Idaho Ter., Carol Stream.
The process of deciding the boundaries of the six elementary schools has been a long and sometimes emotional one for board members and the public. And there has been plenty of input as community members lobbied at public forums and through letters and telephone calls to keep their neighborhoods together. The lobbying resulted in the creation of one proposal that still is on the table.
The boundary changes became necessary because of growing enrollment. To accommodate that growth, the district, with voter approval, last year borrowed $17.2 million to renovate and expand its buildings and construct a new elementary school.
