Chris Wall
Tainted Angel (Cold Spring)
At a time when “alternative country” is code for meandering singer-songwriters or country-punk bordering on parody, the straightforward style of Texas-based Chris Wall is a relief. Like many artists of his genre, Wall has bad habits and does not hesitate to sing about them. What distinguishes Wall is the easygoing sense of humor he brings to the table, in addition to the upbeat sound of Reckless Kelly, the young country-rock band that backs Wall on this disc. Working with this group reportedly revitalized Wall’s creative juices, adding new shades to songs he had lying around for years.
