A class act: When Highland Park’s Historic Preservation Commission chose its annual renovation recipients recently, three of five preservation awards went to members of the Highland Park High School class of 1978.
Among the recipients were HPHS alumni couple Sheryl (Berg) and Dan Perlman, alumna Meg (Musick) Makely and her husband, Michael, and alumna Andrea (Lee) Rosengarden and her husband, Michael. Sheryl Perlman said the three couples, who are friends, had not mentioned to each other that they were entering the preservation competition for work they had done on their individual houses. It was just a phenomenal coincidence.
“I thought it was funny and kind of bizarre,” Perlman said.
Special awards also went to the city for its renovation of City Hall and to the Town of Ft. Sheridan developers for work done on the former officers club.
