The New Lenox Village Board has postponed a vote on hiring a consulting firm to study the north side of the village where a proposed highway extension is expected to link up with Interstate Highway 80.

Tuesday’s vote on the contract was put off until March 23.

Trustee Dave Smith said the vote should wait until the board can interview the consultant, which is also to occur on March 23.

The plan to extend I-355 from Bolingbrook to I-80 in New Lenox has been stalled by court rulings mandating more environmental information.

The consultant’s study is expected to include a review of plans for the area and updates on growth and population data that would be affected by the highway, as well as market analysis and design and land use strategies.
