A water main break at a middle school in Round Lake provided pupils with an unexpected day off Tuesday, school officials said.

The break occurred Monday afternoon on school property just outside John T. Magee Middle School, 500 N. Cedar Lake Rd., said Kurt Valentin, director of business affairs for Round Lake Unit School District 116.

Despite a snowstorm that dumped 5 to 7 inches on the area late Monday, the remainder of schools in the district were open Tuesday, according to Supt. Mary L. Davis.

With the water main repaired late in the day Tuesday, classes were scheduled to resume Wednesday, Davis said.
