An 18-year-old Round Lake High School senior was killed in a car crash over the weekend when the auto he was riding in slid sideways on Illinois Highway 60 into the westbound lane and was struck broadside by another car.
Richard Potoczek, 18, of 111 E. Clarendon Drive, Round Lake Beach, was pronounced dead shortly after the early Saturday morning accident in unincorporated Round Lake.
Potoczek was seated in the front passenger seat of a 1995 Saturn when the driver, Dale Jones, 18, also of Round Lake, lost control on the icy highway, according to the Lake County sheriff’s police. Alcohol was not a contributing factor, sheriff’s police said. Jones was listed in critical condition Monday at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Potoczek, along with Jones and another passenger, were not wearing seatbelts. The other Saturn passenger, Randall Lewis, 18, of Round Lake, was treated at and released from Condell Hospital in Libertyville, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Nicole Cirrincione, 24, of Spring Grove, the driver of the other car, was in good condition.
