A volunteer committee working for the passage of a referendum proposal to finance a new building for the New Lenox Public Library has named its co-chairwomen.
Nancy Binion, secretary of the District 122 School Board, and Cheri Webb, president of Friends of the Library, will co-chair the panel.
Voters will be asked in April to approve a $10.85 million bond issue. Tax bills would be increased by 12 cents for each $100 of assessed valuation.
The two-story building, which will include a coffee shop and a separate children’s department, would be one of the cornerstones of the planned New Lenox Commons area south of U.S. Highway 30 and north of the Village Hall on Haven Avenue.
