Tinley Park officials this week approved ordinances aimed at regulating laser pointers and at streamlining arrest procedures for first-time retail theft offenders.
Following the lead of other towns such as Joliet, Matteson and Orland Hills, trustees voted to ban the possession by or sale to minors of laser pointers. The new law also makes it illegal to aim the devices directly at another person’s head or body.
An exception to the law is made for those using the pointers in a professional capacity.
