People who buy lots nearest Interstate Highway 80 in the Walker Country Estates North development will be able to install fences and pools in the rear 100 feet of their back yards.

Trustees agreed to a waiver of green-space buffer requirements for lots near the highway after a request from the developer. Andy Dystrup, a developer’s representative, said the yards would be 50 feet from the highway, and not allowing homeowners to build pools, fences or sheds would limit use of the property.

Mayor John Nowakowski said the green-space requirement is intended to serve as a noise barrier, and pools and fences won’t diminish that function.
