It was a little delayed, but the January promotion of Batavia Police Patrol Officer Pete Tyo to sergeant received public recognition Monday as Mayor Jeff Schielke administered the oath of office during the City Council meeting.
Sgt. Tyo, 36, has served in the patrol division since he joined the department six and a half years ago. He was promoted to replace Sgt. Mike Rappley, who retired last August from the department.
Chief Dennis Anderson, noting Tyo’s move from his original home of Connecticut, said, “Batavia is a better place” since his arrival and applauded his performance and dedication as supervisor of the field training officers.
For the last three years Tyo has served as an officer in charge of his shift, and two years ago he rewrote the department’s field training manual, Anderson said.
