Better than fines: During this holiday season, shoppers were able to give their local libraries a gift, thanks to Lincoln Mall management. Shoppers registering receipts dated Nov. 15 through Dec. 31 at the Matteson shopping center’s customer service office automatically donated 5 percent of the merchandise price to the Crete, Flossmoor, Grande Prairie, Homewood, Matteson, Park Forest, Richton Park or Steger-South Chicago Heights libraries.
The program earned $3,100 for the libraries, according to Van Geroux of Urban Retail Properties Co., which owns Lincoln Mall.
