player ready...Donald P. Murphy, Batavia Park District Board commissioner, was recognized this month by the Illinois Association of Park Districts as one of five outstanding park board members in the state.
“It was very overwhelming and I feel really humble, to be honest with you,” Murphy said of the award given by the association, which represents more than 380 park districts.
Murphy was recognized for that support and attendance and for various achievements in volunteerism, including helping kick off plans for the city’s Riverwalk.
“The recognition was very meaningful to me because I’ll be leaving the board in April,” he said.
Murphy, 52, has been a member of the Batavia Park District Board for 12 years and has served eight years as its representative on the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association.
