If you want your children to learn how plants and animals endure winter months, the Lake County Forest Preserve is offering several educational programs.

Openings are available for sessions, which will be this month and in February. For 1st and 2nd graders, there’s the Young Naturalists program, which will allow children to explore hibernation, tracking and flock behavior.

This program is scheduled for Saturday at Ryerson Woods, 10 a.m. to noon. Another session will be Feb. 20, 10 a.m. to noon, at the Lakewood Forest Preserves. The cost is $8 a child; $6 for Lake County residents.

The ECO Adventurers program, for 3rd and 4th graders, will let children explore active animals in the winter through hikes, explorations and games.

This session will be Jan. 23, at the Lake County Forest Preserve office; and Feb. 27 at Ryerson Woods. Both sessions will be 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $8 a student; $6 for Lake County residents.
