Mokena is joining its southwest suburban neighbors in attempting to put restrictions on adult-oriented businesses.

An ordinance approved by the Village Board Monday night spells out matters such as licensing, fees and hours of operation.

Like nearby New Lenox and Tinley Park, which recently enacted similar legislation, Mokena does not have any adult-oriented businesses.

Under the ordinance, applicants for adult-business permits and their employees would face criminal background checks. Applicants would pay a $100 application fee and a $1,000 permit fee. Employees also would have to obtain individual licenses for $50.

Locations would be restricted to 1,000 feet or more from any residential, public, quasi-public or conservation zoning districts.
