York’s Laura Milkert took it personally when her team’s victory over then-No. 7 Maine West last week was called an upset. On Tuesday, the senior responded with 24 points as visiting York (2-3) knocked off No. 16 Hinsdale Central 51-44 in a West Suburban Silver Division opener.
“People said when we beat Maine West we pulled a lottery ticket,” Milkert said. “We wanted to prove to ourselves and everyone else that it wasn’t just a one-game thing.”
York put away the game in the second quarter with an 18-2 run. Hinsdale (5-1) struggled when Lindsay Pietrzak, who finished with 13 points, went to the bench with her second foul with 5 minutes 22 seconds left in the first half.
Marshall tournament: Top-ranked Marshall (3-0) rolled past Roosevelt 86-41 with Kimya Murray’s 25 points. Kristy Schneider led Roosevelt (2-3) with 20. . . . Evanston (4-1) beat Dunbar 68-58 as Tanara Golston scored 20. Dunbar is 3-1.
Loyola 57, Mother McAuley 25: Laura Sobieszczyk totaled 22 points and 15 rebounds in the GCAC Red opener for No. 4 Loyola (6-1, 1-0) despite a cut on her chin that required stitches. McAuley (1-4, 0-1) was held to 10 points through the first three quarters.
Lyons Township 78, Leyden 44: No. 6 Lyons (5-0) rolled with Katie Meyers’ 17 points and Amanda Papuga’s 16.
Glenbard West 67, Proviso West 49: Maureen Draths had 18 points and Kristi Faulkner 17 for No. 7 Glenbard West (7-0, 1-0), which led 23-7 after one quarter in the West Suburban Silver. Charlene Smith scored 22 for Proviso West (2-4, 0-1).
Warren 56, Palatine 26: Becky Moo’s 15 points led No. 8 Warren (6-0).
Maria 57, Immaculate Heart of Mary 22: Lori Carillo had 13 points and Mary Cain added 12 for No. 13 Maria (6-0). IHM is 1-7.
West Aurora 59, Elgin 28: No. 20 West Aurora (4-3) used 16 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks by Jackie Shook and 16 points by Amanda Wolf to drub Elgin (4-3).
Barrington 55, Resurrection 48: Barrington (5-1) prevailed with Nicky Eason’s 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Buffalo Grove 49, Niles North 43: Every player scored for Buffalo Grove (3-3), led by Lindsey Hamma’s 10 points. Niles North is 3-4.
Chicago Latin 41, Woodlands 36: Latin (5-0, 2-0) pulled out the Independent School League victory with Santia Jackson’s 16 points and 17 rebounds.
Chicago Vocational 49, Lincoln Park 35: Kiesha Wilmington’s 22 points sparked CVS (3-2).
Glenbard South 55, Glenbard East 43: Meghan Barkman’s 24 points and 13 rebounds fueled Glenbard South (4-2).
Glenbrook South 57, Waukegan 55: Keagan Thalin (17 points) hit two free throws with 30 seconds left to lift Glenbrook South (4-2, 1-0) in the Central Suburban South. Kenja White had 29 points for Waukegan (5-3, 0-1).
