In a groove: Highland Park nightclub owner Joe Bortz does not expect “groovy” ’70s music to fade in popularity soon, even though many Baby Boomers have reached the 50 mark. That’s why in early October, a little over a year after Bortz opened the Groovy Disco Night Club in Palatine, he replicated it in Midlothian on 147th Street and dubbed it Groovy Disco South.

Indeed, Bortz is so sure that ’70s kitsch, such as the “Brady Bunch” living room he has duplicated in his lounges, is still “in,” he wants to have a Groovy club in every major city in the United States. “And in some cities, more than one,” he said. “The King of ’70s Retro — that’s me.”
