Pet owners in Batavia will have to become more familiar with the letters of the law, particularly the capital letter “O” after action this week by the City Council.
After several complaints about domestic cats expanding the edges of their litter boxes to neighbors’ property, City Council members this summer decided that such complaints were enforceable under the pollution ordinance.
The council this week voted to strengthen the law by having police enforce it through the issuance of O-tickets–ordinance violation tickets, which can result in a $50 fine.
