The Elgin Parks and Recreation Board this week approved higher fees for softball league entries and the rental of Lords Park Pavilion.

The City Council must approve the rate hike plans. A date for the vote hasn’t been set.

Softball league entry fees would rise to $410 from $370. If the rate increase is approved, it would take effect in 1999. The district has not increased the fee since 1993. Some 210 men’s and women’s teams play during the summer.

The rental fees for the Lords Park Pavilion would increase by 20 percent each year for the next four years, beginning next summer.

The rate is determined by the number of users and the duration of an event. The current hourly average rate is $12.50. The facility is popular for birthdays and weddings, city officials said.
