The Elgin Parks and Recreation Board on Tuesday night approved higher fees for burial at Bluff City Cemetery, softball league entries and the rental of Lords Park Pavilion.
The City Council must approve the rate hikes, but a date for a vote has not been set.
The Park District would increase burial fees in the city-owned cemetery by 3 percent. The fee includes the plot and site excavation.
Softball league entry fees would rise by 11 percent, from $370 to $410. The rate increase would take effect in 1999. The district has not increased the fee since 1993. Some 210 men’s and women’s teams play during the summer.
The rental fees for the Lords Park Pavilion would increase by 20 percent each year for the next four years, beginning next summer. The rate is determined by the number of users and the length of time.
The current hourly average rate is $12.50. The facility is popular for birthdays and weddings.
“We are so competitive. We’re the cheapest game in town,” said Park District Director Monica Meyers.
