This was more like it for St. Charles’ soccer team.
The fourth-ranked Saints used a three-goal outburst in the second half to bury No. 7 St. Viator 4-0 Thursday night in St. Charles.
“It was a tremendous performance,” said Saints coach Paul Keenan, whose team has struggled early this season with two losses and a tie. “Our depth really showed tonight and (we had) quality goals. You don’t get much better than that.”
After a scoreless opening 25 minutes, St. Charles (4-2-1) finally beat St. Viator goalie Justin Brecken as senior forward Rob Christopher picked up a rebound and punched through a 15-foot shot for a 1-0 lead.
Seven minutes into the second half, the Saints made it 2-0 as senior defender Todd Ball knocked in a deflection after a scramble in front of the net.
Midfielder G.J. Bellaver boosted the lead to 3-0 as he beat Brecken on a short shot with 15:49 to play. Two minutes later senior forward Paul Vogel took a feed from Peter Kelley to extend the lead to 4-0.
“We got spanked,” said St. Viator coach Mike Taylor, whose team slipped to 6-2-1. “I don’t think there was a phase of the game that they didn’t beat us in.”

New Trier 3, Glenbrook North 2: The sixth-ranked Trevians (8-0-1, 2-0) won with 28 seconds left on Bill Metzger’s goal. Glenbrook North (4-3-1, 0-1-1) led 2-1 with 14:01 left on Neil Jacobs’ score, but New Trier tied the game three minutes later with Greg Badger’s second goal.
In the last 11 seconds, New Trier’s Adam Shindler received a red card and will miss New Trier’s game against Deerfield on Saturday.
Lincoln-Way 5, Lockport 1: Jacob Stasko had two goals and Ned Grabavoy added a goal and an assist for top-ranked Lincoln-Way (8-0, 4-0) in the SICA West. Lockport fell to 2-4, 1-2.
Naperville North 2, Neuqua Valley 1: The fifth-ranked Huskies (7-1-1) trailed 1-0 at the half but rallied in the second half with two goals by Kevin Wickart.
Maine South 3, Glenbrook South 1: No. 8 Maine South (6-2-1) rebounded from consecutive losses to Evanston and Libertyville as Justin Eatherton scored twice and Kris Salvador also tallied. Glenbrook South is 4-4-1.

“We came back after Libertyville and the guys had a team meeting,” Maine South coach Gus Pappas said. “They made some decisions about where they wanted to go with the rest of the season. They came out with a lot of enthusiasm today.”

Lyons Township 3, Benet 1: Chris Kasang tied the game for Lyons (4-4-1) with five minutes left in the first half off an assist from Gino Ortega, who scored the next two goals.
Northridge Prep 4, St. Gregory 1: In the Chicago Prep, Fernando Jurado had two goals to spark Northridge (4-4-2, 2-0).
Oak Park 2, Addison Trail 1: Matt Durand and Dan Lau had the goals for Oak Park (6-2-1).
Riverside-Brookfield 3, Lemont 2: Raul Jasso’s goal for R-B with 15 minutes left broke a 2-2 tie in the Suburban Prairie White. Lemont is 6-3-1, 2-1.
Serena 5, Leland 1: Serena (6-2, 1-0) won in the Little 10 as Dain Twait scored four goals, giving him 13 on the season.

Glenbrook North d. Deerfield 15-1, 9-15, 15-3: Kristen Bearwald’s 12 kills and Lisa Mengarelli’s 26 assists led Glenbrook North (10-2, 2-0) in the Central Suburban North.
