Steger officials Friday sent a resolution to U.S. Rep. Jerry Weller (R-Ill.) asking for his help in persuading the U.S. Postal Service to give its Miller Woods-area residents the same ZIP code as that of Steger.
The action, authorized at last week’s Village Board meeting, is the latest move in the village’s eight-year battle to persuade postal authorities to funnel Miller Woods’ mail through Steger’s post office.
The 500 addresses in Miller Woods share a ZIP code with Chicago Heights, Ford Heights, Lynwood, Sauk Village and South Chicago Heights.
Trustee Anthony Santori said the ZIP code rift creates a psychological barrier between residents of the wooded rural area and “old” Steger.
